In 1990, 1-2-1 Cardiosonics was formed to train hospital personell in the Art of Cardiac Sonography. Cardiosonics to this day provides this service as opposed to having managers send their staff off to anywhere in the country, spending thousands of dollars trying to train people who are usually only familier with their own lab/hospital surrounding. Tim S. Gahara BA, MS, CVT, RDCS decided there was a MUCH EASIER way. Go to THIER lab, teach them on THIER equipment utilizing THIER patient population. Win-Win all way around, because not only does the hospital save thousands of dollars in training, not knowing if the technician or technologist was up for the task. Far too many found out they didn't have "The Right Stuff" to move into a career of Echocardiography, and wasted time, expence, and being away from friends and family. The "rush to learn it in a week" type programs never gave the needed time in the one area that was imperative to learn...hands-on scanning.
Cardiosonics turned the tables on that old learning process. We trained them within THIER enviroment, where they felt the most comfortable. Hospitals were STILL able to charge for the test, because the FINAL echocardiogram was performed by the experts @ 1-2-1 CardioSonics. the "1-2-1" part of the name was derived by working one on one, or, one to one in the education of staff. Many graduates moved on to study Pediatric Echocardiography with Cardiosonics, or other sub-specialties in Echo. Over %97 of all graduates from the certificate program have been in the field over 10-15 years, and out of that number, over %50 are in charge of some of the best area labs in New England, New York, and as far down the East Coast as Roanoke Virginia! One of the Boston Hospitals actually sent them to Tim S. Gahara's Echocardiography Program at NH Technical Institute, where he was Program Director as well as Associate Proffessor. They liked the fact that thier employees would walk out from the final portion of study performing a basic echocardiogram. No other College or University could boast that at the time. Even now it is still hard to find a program with 50/50 didactic-hands-on.
